Renee Burgan

M.S.W., CLCSW-S

"To change the world, Start with one step. However small, the first step is the hardest of all (David John Matthews),"

So, here you are with taking that first step! You are not alone on this journey and will receive the help you are seeking. Renee is honored to be a social worker with the opportunity to help guide you through the times of what can be considered the rough and unsteady waters of life. Utilizing another reference to water, she believes that in order to cross the ocean, one must be able to get past the break. There are times in life which lead to feelings of hopelessness and uncertainty. As a firm believer in the power of hope, she wants to be a source of support and encouragement, so that you regain your feeling of hope and are able to once again feel confident with yourself. Renee proudly earned her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Maryland School of Social Work in Baltimore and a Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University in Towson, MD. Her work and advocacy have been recognized within her local community and beyond.

Renee is a Clinical Licensed Certified Social Worker with over 20 years experience in the helping profession. She has held positions where she assisted youth who struggled with addiction, was Director of Social Services for a Skilled Nursing Facility, provided individual and group therapy to children, adolescents, and adults, was an Emergency Psychiatric Services counselor, a Medical Social Worker, and currently a Forensic Social Worker.

Topic areas of her social work experience include the following: legal involvement, addiction, depression, anxiety, chronic mental illness, crisis intervention, trauma, homelessness, family issues, vocational stressors, educational challenges, physical health and wellbeing, and illness management. Throughout her career, Renee has worked with a diverse population of people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. It is that diversity which she appreciates and believes she too has the opportunity to learn from those she is assisting in the therapeutic process. In addition to her commitment toward being the change she wants to see in the world with humans, she is also a staunch advocate for non-human animals. Renee is Vegan and adheres to living an ethically compassionate life that does not cause harm to others. At home, she enjoys life with two rescue dogs (Jackson Cash/Nikko), two rescue cats (Stella/Cornbread), and one rescue cow (Carter). Renee also appreciates any opportunity to explore nature through hiking, visiting beaches, listening to music, seeing live music, and traveling to see the Dave Matthews Band. During election season, she volunteers on political campaigns, informs potential voters, and registers people to vote.
