Dr. Jamaal Fortner, DSW, MSW, MHA, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Dr. Jamaal “Doc J” Fortner is a south Louisiana native who combines his sense of home-spun Southern wisdom with evidence based practice. Doc J is a two-time graduate of Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Health Administration. He is also a two-time graduate of the University of Southern California with a Master of Social Work and a Doctor of Social Work. Doc J is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of Colorado, Nevada, and Texas.

Doc J brings over 8 years of extensive clinical experience that includes inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care focused on members of the LGBTQ+ population and communities of color. Additionally, he holds specialties in substance abuse and domestic violence. Doc J has had the pleasure of working with a variety of clients ranging from adolescent to geriatric populations. While Doc J is well-versed in a variety of presenting concerns, the most frequently addressed are: depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, men’s issues, childhood trauma, grief/loss, low self-esteem, family conflicts, peer conflict, and work stress. 

Doc J utilizes a variety of treatment modalities to ensure a tailored, client-focused healing experience. Doc J is deeply committed to promoting mental health awareness and reducing the stigma surrounding seeking help for mental health concerns, particularly within minority communities. He actively engages in outreach and advocacy efforts to increase access to culturally competent mental health care and promote greater understanding of the intersectionality of mental health and social justice issues.

In his spare time, Doc J enjoys spending time with his family, practicing mindfulness and self-care, and engaging in activities that nourish his mind, body, and soul. Whether he's exploring a local thrift store, listening to a podcast, or simply enjoying a quiet moment of reflection, Doc J believes in the importance of prioritizing self-care to maintain emotional well-being and resilience.
